Coffee Leads The Way to Employment
Like the smell of fresh coffee? It seems that MADEC Employment & Training at Centro Colonnades Noarlunga is the place to be.
Late last year the Employment and Training provider engaged David Dixon (or better know as the “Do It Now Man”) to work with and motivate long term unemployed job seekers towards achieving their goals.
David had a vision to move away from the more formal approach and introduce clients into working in small groups and a more relaxed environment. This created the ideal setting for a relaxed meeting over a coffee. The coffee idea stimulated a progression of brainstorming that resulted in David introducing MADEC to a friend of his Vincent Henderson who owns a Gloria Jean’s Café, and was prepared to help set up a coffee lounge using some of his equipment.
The idea has grown from holding group meetings, to the setting up of a fully operational coffee lounge with five commercial coffee machines. MADEC staff and David recognised this as a golden opportunity to form strong working relationships, whilst at the same time delivering Coffee Making
Branch Manager Gary Miller said “the Coffee Lounge has been a fantastic development; thanks to both David and Vincent job seekers are not only learning the art of making a great coffee, but they are also developing many life skills such as communication, team building, public speaking and networking, which can all contribute to successfully securing a job”.
MADEC are now delivering an Introduction to Coffee Making training on a regular basis, with a number of job seekers who have participated in the first two courses now gainfully employed. Local employers have also recognised the opportunity to take advantage of the training for their own staff, with plenty of enquiries and bookings now being made.
Employers or Job seekers wishing to be trained in the art of coffee making can contact MADEC Employment & Training by calling into the office at Shop F5 Commonwealth Building, Centro Colonnades, Noarlunga Centre or phone on 8307 2000.
